Scrum Master | Agile Coach

The Scrum Management Framework and Kanban is integral to the GTC’s solution delivery locally and internationally. We are searching for a Scrum Master | Agile Coach with at least 3 years’ experience to join our team in Cape Town to improve our teams’ Agile practices and techniques and overall solution delivery.

Who are we looking for?

Do you have at least 3 years of experience working with Scrum teams? Have you turned them into high performance teams? Backed up by a recognised Scrum Master certification, you will have experience of multiple Agile practices beyond Scrum and Kanban. Your strong group facilitation skills, high EQ, flexibility to work with all levels, and also in different domains and industries will be highly valued. You would need to have an appetite for taking on challenges, a certain level of tenacity, positivity and the ability to influence.

Main Purpose of Role

  • To fulfil the role of Scrum Master and Agile Coach
  • Ensure Scrum is understood, and the practices, principles and values are followed
  • Help form self-managed teams that are happy, predictable, transparent, consistently delivers quality work and continually inspects and adapts in order to improve and maximize throughput
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
  • Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Supporting and educating client Product Owners, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog
  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style and leading by example

About the Global Testing Centre

  • Outsourced automation and performance testing
  • 80 people ranging from expert level to new interns
  • Two delivery centres – Cape Town and Johannesburg
  • More than 30 clients in RSA and UK
  • 40 client projects

Skills and Experience Required

  • First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM II) and a Kanban certification will be beneficial
  • Solid understanding and application of Scrum and Agile theory
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least three years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
  • Strong communication, coaching, facilitation skills and mentoring skills
  • Flexible, resilient, energetic and have a servant-leadership style
  • Influential: Able to exert influence inside and outside the team
  • Strong logical thinking and deductive reasoning
  • Self-motivated and the ability to motivate others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse personality types and deal with conflict in an effective way
  • Collaborative: Works to ensure a collaborative culture exists within the team
  • Highly observant and an expert at root cause analysis
  • Committed and responsible: Takes responsibility and is committed to the success of the team achieving their delivery goals
  • Humble: Puts the team above own needs and recognizes the value in all team members
